House Stokeworth of Castle Stokeworth is a noble house of the crownlands, holding a seat north of King's Landing on the road between the capital and Duskendale. Their blazon, a white lamb holding a golden goblet on a green field, and their words, "Proud to Be Faithful," speak to a house that has long measured its worth in loyal service rather than martial glory. When Visenya Targaryen and her dragon Vhagar descended on the castle during Aegon's Conquest, the lord of Stokeworth surrendered rather than see his roofs burned to ash, and that early submission was amply rewarded. Lord Alyn Stokeworth was named Hand of the King to Aegon I Targaryen in 34 AC, and was entrusted alongside Queen Visenya with the construction of the Red Keep after Aegon ordered the Aegonfort demolished in 35 AC. Alyn continued as Hand under Aenys I, dying in the riverlands at the hands of Harren the Red while hunting that rebel.
At the time of A Game of Thrones, the house is headed by Lady Tanda Stokeworth, a stout and pleasant widow who moves easily among the lords and ladies of the court at King's Landing. Her elder daughter Falyse is wed to Ser Balman Byrch, and her younger daughter Lollys is a dim but good-natured woman who is often escorted to court functions by her mother. The Stokeworths remain what they have always been: a modest house of the crownlands, content to tend their castle and their fields, to attend the great and the powerful, and to give no cause for offense.
