House Lothston

House Lothston of Harrenhal was an extinct noble house of the riverlands, sworn to Riverrun. The house was founded in 151 AC when King Aegon III Targaryen gifted Harrenhal to Ser Lucas Lothston, master-at-arms of the Red Keep, at the urging of Prince Viserys Targaryen. Lucas had wed Lady Falena Stokeworth, a former royal mistress, and the great ruined seat of the Godseye was their reward. The Lothstons thus became the sixth noble house to hold Harrenhal, and would hold it longer than any of the others, ruling for roughly eight decades.

The house's reputation was ill from the start. Lord Lucas was named Hand of the King by Aegon IV, who took his daughter Jeyne as a mistress, and the lord's acquiescence earned him the mocking epithet "the Pander." His son Manfryd, called Manfryd o' the Black Hood, was remembered for black deeds of his own. The house recovered some standing under Lady Danelle Lothston, who marched her levies in support of Lord Bloodraven at Whitewalls in 212 AC during the Second Blackfyre Rebellion. Yet the end came swiftly. During the reigns of Aerys I and Maekar I, Danelle's sanity broke entirely; she was said to send giant bats out to snatch children for her cookpots, to bathe in blood, and to feast on human flesh. Whatever the truth of these tales, her line ended in madness and chaos, and Harrenhal passed to House Whent, who had helped bring her down. It is whispered that scattered descendants of the Lothstons survive in exile across the narrow sea, in the Free Cities.
