Orton Merryweather, Lord of Longtable, is the grandson of Lord Owen Merryweather, a courteous man with carrot-coloured hair and a bulbous, beetroot-like nose. He went into exile alongside his disgraced grandfather, and there took a Myrish bride, Taena, who bore him a son and heir, Russell. After the rebellion Orton persuaded King Robert I Baratheon to restore Longtable, its titles, and a portion of the Merryweather lands, though Robert emptied the family treasury in the bargain, leaving Orton a poorer lord than Owen had been. In A Feast for Crows, Queen Regent Cersei Lannister names him to her small council as justiciar, where he counsels making common cause with the ironborn against Stannis Baratheon, and afterward raises him to Hand of the King in place of Ser Harys Swyft. When Cersei is imprisoned by the Faith of the Seven, Orton resigns his office and flees back to Longtable with his wife.
