Halys Hornwood was Lord of the Hornwood and head of his house during the War of the Five Kings, a jovial and ever-obliging man wed to Lady Donella of House Manderly, by whom he had a trueborn heir, Daryn, and by another woman a natural son, Larence Snow. When Robb Stark called the northern banners, Halys came to Winterfell bearing gifts, seeking leave to dam the White Knife, hunting privileges north of a ridge, and the return of a holdfast taken from his grandfather. When the host split at the Twins he marched with Lord Roose Bolton and was slain at the battle on the Green Fork in 299 AC; his son Daryn fell at much the same time in the Whispering Wood. His widow Donella ruled Hornwood after him until her own death. He appears in A Game of Thrones and is first called Harys in one passage of A Clash of Kings before being called Halys thereafter.
