House Redfort

As Strong as Stone

House Redfort of Redfort is reckoned among the most ancient lines of the Vale, tracing its descent to the First Men who held the eastern hills long before the Andals crossed the Narrow Sea. Their seat is one of the oldest stone keeps in Westeros, a fortress whose red-castle sigil on white is said to reflect the very walls that gave the family its name. Where the Royces of Runestone preserve their legacy in runed bronze, the Redforts preserve theirs in dressed stone, and the words they have carried down through the centuries speak plainly of what they value: As Strong as Stone.

At the opening of A Game of Thrones the house is held by Lord Horton Redfort, thrice-married and the father of four knighted sons. His youngest, Ser Mychel, has lately wed Ysilla Royce, binding the Redforts by marriage to another great First Men house of the Vale. Lord Horton counts himself among the Lords Declarant, the bloc of Vale lords who will soon demand an accounting of Petyr Baelish's stewardship of the Eyrie, and the house's ancient walls remain as firm in that cause as the stone they are named for.
