House Harte is a noble house of the crownlands, sworn directly to House Baratheon of King's Landing. A Lord Harte was among the last lords to stand by King Maegor I Targaryen, fleeing to his own seat when the king was found dead upon the Iron Throne, and later rode to Dragonstone to treat with the young Jaehaerys I. During the Dance of the Dragons a later Lord Harte held to Rhaenyra Targaryen's cause at court, and was beheaded on King Aegon II's orders for refusing to bend the knee.
In the regency of Aegon III, Ser Denys Harte accompanied Lord Manfryd Mooton to Braavos, where he was said to have hired the Faceless Men against a rival back in King's Landing, while Lady Hazel Harte wed Daeron Velaryon and died of the Winter Fever. By the War of the Five Kings the house is represented by Ser Elwood Harte, who fights for King Joffrey I at the Battle of the Blackwater and takes Ser Donnel Swann's surrender.
