Ser Donnel Swann, eldest son and heir of Lord Gulian Swann, took up arms for Renly Baratheon at the outset of the War of the Five Kings, then went over to Stannis after Renly's death at Storm's End. Wounded at the Battle of the Blackwater, he yielded to Ser Elwood Harte, was ransomed, and bent the knee to King Joffrey I Baratheon. For this shifting allegiance Ser Jaime Lannister mockingly dubbed him "Ser Donnel the Constant," remarking to his brother Balon that he might add a weathervane to his shield and could yet become the first knight in the realm to swear fealty to every king of the war.
