Manfryd Mooton was Lord of Maidenpool through the Dance of the Dragons and the regency of King Aegon III Targaryen, brother and successor to Lord Walys Mooton. Having taken the seat when Walys was charred trying to slay Sunfyre at Rook's Rest, Manfryd gave Prince Daemon Targaryen and the dragonseed Nettles the use of Maidenpool as their base. When Queen Rhaenyra commanded by letter that he put Nettles to death while sparing Daemon, Manfryd, loath to break guest right, took counsel with his maester Norren, his captain of the guard, a remaining brother, and his champion Ser Florian Greysteel, and chose to ignore the order; once the two dragonriders had departed he struck down Rhaenyra's standard at Maidenpool's gates and raised the golden dragons of King Aegon II in its place. After the war he sat among the seven regents for Aegon III. In 133 AC, though lately bedridden by Winter Fever, he was sent to treat with the Sealord of Braavos, securing forgiveness for Alyn Velaryon's attack on the Braavosi fleet and the cession of the Stepstones to the Iron Throne. He died of age and illness in 134 AC at King's Landing.
