Mern IX Gardener

Mern IX Gardener was the ninth of his name and the last King of the Reach from House Gardener. When Aegon the Conqueror landed in Westeros, Mern joined his strength to that of King Loren I Lannister of the Rock to throw the invaders back into the sea, the two kings remembered together as the Two Kings. Their armies gathered near Goldengrove, and as Mern had brought half again as many men he commanded the centre of the host. He led the charge against Aegon's army, and the combined might of the Reach and the Rock had begun to break the Targaryen line when Aegon and his sisters Visenya and Rhaenys took to the sky upon their dragons. The dragonfire slew four thousand men at the Field of Fire in 2 BC, Mern among them, together with his sons, grandsons, brothers, uncles, and cousins. A single nephew survived the day but died of his burns three days later, and with him House Gardener ended.
