Merle I Gardener (the Meek)

Merle I Gardener, called Merle the Meek, was the second of the Three Sage Kings, son and successor to Garth IX. He was the first Gardener king to convert to the Faith of the Seven, of which he became a patron, helping to fund and raise septs, septries, and motherhouses across the Reach. To bind a powerful Andal lord to the Gardener realm he wed an Andal maiden. Of his reign and those of his father and son, the chroniclers record that seldom had a conquest been achieved with less bloodshed. He was succeeded by his son, Gwayne V.
