Garth IX Gardener

Garth IX Gardener was the first of the Three Sage Kings, the trio of Gardener monarchs who met the coming of the Andals to the Reach with accord and assimilation rather than armed resistance. Though he continued to worship the old gods, Garth brought a septon to his court and made him one of his counsellors, and during his reign the first sept at Highgarden was raised. He took Andals into his service as household knights and retainers, and bequeathed lands and lordships upon the most powerful Andal kings in exchange for pledges of fealty. He was succeeded upon the Oakenseat by his son, Merle I.
