Walys Mooton was Lord of Maidenpool and head of House Mooton during the early part of the Dance of the Dragons, fighting for Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and the blacks. After the battle of Rook's Rest, Lord Walys led a hundred knights from Maidenpool and joined men of the Crabbs, Brunes, and Celtigars to take the greens' garrison by surprise and recover the castle. He then led his bravest soldiers against the wounded dragon Sunfyre in the field west of Rook's Rest; the attempt failed, and threescore men were slain, the charred Lord Walys among them, before the survivors fled. He was succeeded as Lord of Maidenpool by his brother Manfryd, who found his body when he reached the castle a fortnight later.
