Harrold Hardyng, called Harry the Heir and sometimes the Young Falcon, is the only child of a landed knight of House Hardyng sworn to House Waynwood and the youngest daughter of Ser Elys Waynwood and Alys Arryn. Born in 281 or 282 AC in the Vale of Arryn, he was taken in as a ward by Lady Anya Waynwood at Ironoaks and raised there. Shortly after Robert's Rebellion the infant Harrold became heir presumptive to his great-uncle Jon Arryn, the last male descendant of Lord Jasper Arryn after Ser Elbert Arryn, Ser Denys Arryn, and Denys's only son died in succession; the birth of Robert Arryn in 292 AC displaced him, but on Jon's death in 298 AC he was confirmed as Lord Robert's heir, set to rule the Vale should the sickly boy die without issue. Handsome, sandy-haired, blue-eyed and said to bear the look of Jon Arryn in his youth, he had already fathered a bastard daughter, Alys Stone, on a lowborn servant named Cissy, with a second bastard on the way by Saffron, a spice merchant's daughter from Gulltown. In A Feast for Crows, Petyr Baelish schemes to wed him to Sansa Stark in her guise as Alayne Stone, and in the The Winds of Winter sample chapter Ser Harrold rides for the Gates of the Moon for a tourney to determine membership in the Brotherhood of Winged Knights.
