Edgar Yronwood

Edgar Yronwood was Lord of Yronwood and head of the house during the early reign of King Aerys II Targaryen, a huge man of fierce repute and short temper who held the styles the Bloodroyal and Warden of the Stone Way. When Prince Oberyn Martell was sixteen, he was found abed with Edgar's paramour, and the two fought a duel, drawn only to first blood owing to the prince's youth and high birth. Both men took cuts, but where Oberyn recovered, Edgar's wounds festered and he died at Yronwood, gaining the prince his nickname of the Red Viper amid rumors that his blade had been poisoned. The death left a blood debt between House Yronwood and House Nymeros Martell that Prince Doran Martell would later repay by fostering his son Quentyn at Yronwood. Edgar was father to Lord Ormond Yronwood and grandfather to Lord Anders Yronwood. His death is recounted in A Storm of Swords and The Winds of Winter.
