Vigilance is the ancestral Valyrian-steel sword of House Hightower of Oldtown, the immensely rich and ancient lords whose beacon-crowned tower has watched over the mouth of the Honeywine since the Dawn Age.
Lord Ormund Hightower carried Vigilance when he led the host of the Reach to war for the greens during the Dance of the Dragons, before he fell at the Second Battle of Tumbleton. In the years of the War of the Five Kings the blade rests with Lord Leyton Hightower, who is said to have shut himself in the high chambers of his tower with his daughter Malora, poring over old books and stranger lore.
