Walter Wyl was Lord of Wyl and head of his house during the reign of King Aenys I Targaryen, son of the infamous lord called the Wyl of Wyl. In 37 AC he was among the handful of Dornish lords who rose with the first Vulture King; while the Vulture King marched against Nightsong and Horn Hill, Lord Walter led the other half of the host to besiege Stonehelm, the seat of House Swann. There his fortunes turned: Lord Orys Baratheon rode forth from Storm's End and smashed the Dornish host beneath the castle walls. Injured and captured in the rout, Walter was brought before Orys, whose own sword hand his father had taken in the First Dornish War. In retaliation Orys struck off Walter's sword hand, then his other hand, then both feet, deeming the repayment 'usury'.
