A shrewd and avaricious King of the Iron Islands, Qhorwyn the Cunning judged that war was bad for trade and that weakness invited attack, and so he avoided open conflict while doubling and then tripling the fleets of House Hoare and commanding his smiths to forge fresh arms to deter any who might assail the islands. His eldest son died of greyscale; when his thirdborn, Harwyn, returned from years of adventuring in the Free Cities and the Disputed Lands, the king lay dying. His middle son, Prince Harlan, then perished in a fall from a horse — an accident some named suspicious, and a few laid to a Faceless Man — and Qhorwyn himself passed six days after, leaving the Seastone Chair to Harwyn, who turned his father's hoarded strength to the conquest of the riverlands. His deeds are recorded in The World of Ice & Fire.
