Mervyn Flowers was a bastard son of Lord Peake of Starpike and half-brother to Lord Unwin Peake. A seasoned soldier who wielded a longsword, he was reckoned dutiful and leal, though hot of blood and quick to take offense in the manner of many bastards. During the regency of Aegon III Targaryen in 133 AC, after several of the Kingsguard died of the Winter Fever, his half-brother, then Hand of the King, overturned the boy king's appointments and had Mervyn raised to a white cloak alongside their kinsman Ser Amaury Peake. He guarded Queen Jaehaera's door the night she died. By Mushroom's account he was fond of wine and did not keep chaste, bedding washerwomen and serving girls in his cell in the White Sword Tower. In 135 AC, exposed as a conspirator after the secret siege, he stabbed Lord Commander Ser Marston Waters to death and was beaten to death while trying to flee, still wearing the white cloak he had dishonored.
