The Knight of Standfast and head of House Osgrey during the reign of King Aerys I Targaryen, a stubborn old man proud of his house's faded glories who treasured the broken shield of his ancestor Ser Wilbert. In the First Blackfyre Rebellion of 196 AC he declared for Daemon I Blackfyre, who promised to restore the long-lost Coldmoat; instead the rising failed and his three sons — Edwyn, Harrold, and Addam — all died on the Redgrass Field. King Daeron II Targaryen pardoned him but granted disputed Osgrey lands, including the Chequy Water, to the loyal House Webber and took his daughter Alysanne to King's Landing as a hostage, whereupon his wife threw herself from the top of Standfast. In 211 AC his renewed quarrel with Lady Rohanne Webber over the Chequy Water was settled by a trial by combat in which his hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall defeated her champion Ser Lucas Inchfield; afterward Eustace and Rohanne reconciled and wed. His exploits are recounted in The Sworn Sword. He died sometime before 219 AC, the last of his line.
