Ser Arys Oakheart, the youngest son of Lady Arwyn Oakheart of Old Oak, was a handsome knight with light-brown hair who realized his lifelong dream of joining the Kingsguard by 290 AC, serving Robert I Baratheon and then the boy king Joffrey. Sansa Stark counted him among the kinder of the white cloaks; when Joffrey commanded him to strike her, he did so more lightly than the others and once protested the order before obeying. He was sent to Dorne as sworn shield to Princess Myrcella Baratheon, where Princess Arianne Martell seduced him and drew him into a plot to crown his charge queen over her brother Tommen. When the conspiracy was uncovered at the Greenblood in 300 AC, Arys charged the Martell guards rather than yield, and Areo Hotah's longaxe took his head when he raised his sword too slowly. He is a point-of-view character in A Feast for Crows.
