Needle is a slim castle-forged blade, no Valyrian wonder but a water-dancer's sword sized for a girl's hand, with a narrow point and a slender guard. Mikken, the smith of Winterfell, made it in secret, and Jon Snow gave it to his half-sister Arya Stark as a parting gift before he rode for the Wall, telling her to stick the enemy with the pointy end.
Arya named the sword for the one thing she hated more than the septa's sewing lessons. She has lost it and recovered it more than once across the war-torn riverlands and the canals of Braavos, hiding it rather than part with it, for it is the last piece of home and family that remains to her.
