House Grafton of Gulltown holds the only true city of the Vale and one of the busiest trading ports of the eastern shore. Their lords have been mayors as much as warriors; Gulltown's gold passes through their hands, and the seven septs that crowd its streets all owe a measure of their stone to a Grafton's purse.
Lord Marq Grafton fell defending his city's gates against young Robert Baratheon during the Rebellion, a misjudgement of allegiance the Graftons have answered by paying their taxes promptly to King's Landing ever since. Lord Gerold Grafton, who holds the city in A Game of Thrones, keeps his banners home and his harbour open.
