When the Silver Sea dwindled, the tall copper-skinned people who name themselves the Tagaez Fen, the Tall Men, raised a great kingdom along the river Sarne in the heart of Essos. Sarnor counted some fifty cities, chief among them Sarnath of the Tall Towers, seat of the High King, and its scythed chariots and learned scholars made it the equal of any power of its age; its merchants trafficked from the Shivering Sea to the Bones. For thousands of years the Kingdom of Sarnor endured, warring and trading with its neighbours while the grasslands south of it filled with horsemen it disdained. That disdain proved fatal in the end: when the Century of Blood loosed the Dothraki upon the world, the quarrelling Tall Men were swept away, and of all their proud cities only mournful Saath by the sea still lives.
