The Great Empire of the Dawn

The priests of Yi Ti teach that before the Long Night the east was ruled by the Great Empire of the Dawn, the first and greatest civilization of men, whose dominion stretched over all the lands of the Jade Sea. Its first emperor was the God-on-Earth, only begotten son of the Lion of Night and the Maiden-Made-of-Light, who ruled ten thousand years from his pearl palace before ascending to the stars. After him reigned his heirs in descending glory: the Pearl Emperor, then the Jade, the Tourmaline, the Onyx, the Opal, and at last the Amethyst Empress, in whose reign the golden age ended in blood. The maesters of the Citadel find no stone or scroll to prove any of it, and set the Great Empire among the myths with which every people gilds its beginnings.
