Queen Rhaella died on Dragonstone giving birth to Daenerys amid the great storm that gave the girl her name, Stormborn, even as Robert's fleets gathered to take the island. Before the garrison could sell the children to the new king, Ser Willem Darry and a handful of loyal men stole the boy Viserys and the babe from their nursery and sailed by night for Braavos, where they lived for a time in the house with the red door that Daenerys would remember all her life as home. When Ser Willem sickened and died, the servants stole what there was to steal and the last Targaryens were turned out, to wander the Free Cities year upon year — feasted at first as curiosities, then suffered as beggars, while Viserys grew bitter selling their mother's crown and earned the name men gave him behind his back: the beggar king.
