The Fisher Queens of the Silver Sea

Legend · 9000 BC* · The Silver Sea

In the dawn of days, the tales of the grasslands tell, a great shining water called the Silver Sea lay in the heart of Essos, and around it ruled the Fisher Queens from a floating palace that made its slow progress around the shores. They were wise and benevolent and favoured of the gods, and the peoples of the grass — the fathers of the Sarnori, the Qaathi, and other races since vanished — came to them for justice and counsel, so that their age is remembered as a golden one. But the world turned dry, the Silver Sea dwindled century by century until only three poisoned lakes remained of it, and the realm of the Fisher Queens passed away with the waters. The maesters know the sea was real, for its dry bed remains; of the queens themselves, only the songs speak.
