Durran Godsgrief Raises Storm's End

Founding · 8500 BC* · Storm's End

Durran, first of the Storm Kings, won the love of Elenei, daughter of the sea god and the goddess of the wind, and by taking her to wife earned the undying wrath of her parents. On his wedding night the gods sent a storm that shattered his hall and slew his guests and kin, and in his grief and defiance Durran declared war upon them, naming himself Godsgrief. Six castles he raised at the edge of Shipbreaker Bay, and six the storms tore down, each greater than the last. The seventh stood: a single colossal drum tower with walls so thick and cunningly curved that the wind could find no purchase, raised, some tales say, with the counsel of the children of the forest, or by a boy who would grow to be Bran the Builder. That castle is Storm's End, and it has never fallen to storm or siege in all the centuries since.
