Tytos Blackwood is Lord of Raventree Hall and head of House Blackwood in the riverlands at the time of A Game of Thrones, a thin, hook-nosed old man who keeps the Old Gods and prizes honor and chivalry. Like every Blackwood before him he is bound in the ancient feud with House Bracken, and he and Lord Jonos Bracken once carried their quarrel all the way to Riverrun to be judged by Hoster Tully. When the War of the Five Kings comes, Tytos fights beneath the walls of Riverrun, leads a sortie in the Battle of the Camps that takes the middle Lannister camp from the rear and frees Ser Edmure Tully, and joins the river lords in proclaiming Robb Stark King in the North.

While he is away at war, Tywin and Kevan Lannister storm and take Raventree Hall, and the Blackwood lands are left a desert; Tytos wins them back, only to be besieged anew. His sons Lucas and the near-seven-foot Hoster ride with him through the fighting. He is among the seven nobles chosen to launch the funeral boat of Hoster Tully into the Tumblestone, and one of the last river lords still defying the Iron Throne when the war moves on.
