Ser Stevron Frey was the firstborn son of Lord Walder Frey, by Walder's first wife Lady Perra Royce, and the long-suffering heir to the Twins. A polite, weasel-faced man past sixty with grandchildren of his own, he had been groomed for lordship for some forty years, prompting his father's jest that Stevron had been waiting that long for him to die. Through three marriages he fathered many children, among them Ser Ryman Frey, the simpleton Aegon "Jinglebell," and Walton. Unlike his father, he was amiable and reasonable: he led the parley with the northern host at the Twins and commanded the Frey men who rode west with Robb Stark after House Frey allied with the King in the North. In the westerlands campaign of A Clash of Kings he fought in the Battle of Oxcross, where he took a hurt that seemed slight; three days later he was found dead in his tent in 299 AC, and Ser Ryman succeeded him as heir. Robb afterward held that, had Stevron lived, he might have mended the breach between Stark and Frey over the broken marriage pact.
