Raymun Redbeard was a King-Beyond-the-Wall who united the free folk and led one of the last great wildling invasions of the North. Having won a toehold upon the Wall, he sent his reavers across and brought his host down through the realm, until Lords Willam and Harmond Stark met him upon the shores of Long Lake in 226 AC, with the water at the wildlings' backs. Though Raymun struck off Lord Willam's head in the fighting, he was in turn cut down by Willam's younger brother, Artos the Implacable, and his free folk were broken upon that ground. His sons were slain beside him, but his younger brother fled back beyond the Wall and was thereafter remembered as the Red Raven, from whom Gerrick Kingsblood would later claim descent. The defeat at Long Lake ended the wildling threat to the North for generations, and no King-Beyond-the-Wall would trouble the realm again until the rise of Mance Rayder.
