A First Man taken captive by the Children of the Forest in the long years before the Long Night and bound to a weirwood, where Leaf drove a shard of dragonglass into his heart and made of him the first of the White Walkers, a weapon shaped to drive the First Men from the woods. He turned upon his makers in time, and led the Others and their host of risen dead south against the realms of men through the long winter that gave the age its name, until the dawn was won and the Wall raised against his kind. He stirred again in the late years of Robert's reign, gathered an army of wights out of the lands beyond the Wall, and brought down a length of the Wall itself when he slew the dragon Viserion and raised him in his own service. He fell in the godswood of Winterfell in 305 AC, when Arya Stark of House Stark drove a Valyrian steel dagger through the same heart the Children had pierced, and his Walkers and his dead shattered into ice with him.
