Argilac Durrandon, called Argilac the Arrogant, was the last Storm King to rule the stormlands from Storm's End, the final scion of the line of Durran Godsgrief to wear the crown of his ancient house. Though a fierce and proud warrior who had won glory in his youth, he saw the rising power of House Targaryen across the water and feared what it might mean for his realm. Hoping to make a buffer of Aegon the Dragon, he offered the conqueror lands and the hand of his only daughter, Argella—but Aegon countered by offering only the lands Argilac already held, and the Storm King, insulted, struck off the hands of the envoys and sent them back.

War followed, and Aegon set his rumored bastard brother Orys Baratheon to march against the stormlands. The two hosts met at the field that would be remembered as the Last Storm in 2 BC, where Argilac's greater numbers were broken amid wind and rain and the dragonfire of Rhaenys upon Meraxes. Refusing every call to yield, the old king came face to face with Orys in single combat; each took a wound, but it was Argilac who fell, and with him died the kingdom of the Storm Kings. Orys took his daughter, his castle, and his crowned stag, and founded House Baratheon in his place.
